Information: Neisseria gonorrhoeae

Neisseria gonorrhoeae (or gonococcus) is a Gram-negative bacterium responsible for the sexually transmitted infection gonorrhea. Neisseria gonorrhoeae is a bacterium that can grow and multiply easily in the warm, moist areas of the reproductive tract, including the cervix, uterus, and fallopian tubes in women, and in the urethra in women and men. The bacterium can also grow in the mouth, throat, eyes and anus.

Symptoms of infection differ, 10% of infected males and 80% of infected females are asymptomatic.
Infection of the genitals can result in a purulent discharge from the genitals, sometimes foul smelling. Symptoms may include inflammation, redness, swelling and painful urination.

Latex condoms when are used correctly, can reduce the risk of transmission of gonorrhea. If a person has been diagnosed and treated for gonorrhea, he or she should notify all recent sex partners so they can see a doctor and be treated.

I do not know anybody with this disease but it is very common infectious disease.
